First test the line with a known working phone without any other phones plugged in. If there is still static, it’s not your cordless. My guess would be the outside wire if this happened after rain, but that could only be a coincidence. Loose jacks or wires inside your home can cause static too. If you check to make sure its not your phone and report the trouble to your TELCO as static after rain they would check the outside wire. Sometimes the telephone line lightning protectors become faulty and create static. Bad curly cords and the silver line cords are the biggest causes of static on phones. Also was the phone dropped, damaged or was something spilled on it? All of those can loosen or degrade internal contacts causing static.
it rained and you got static? well— that means it’s outside and in the lines,, every house has a little box where the line comes in and you are allowed to open this,, there is a place to plug a phone,, do so,, if you still hear static then it is in the line and you need to call the phone company,, unless you have the special phone insurance then they will charge you for any problems in your house!!!
I believe that your problem may be as simple as dirty contacts on the battery of your hand-set. A pencil eraser should do the trick. Open the back of your handset and remove the battery. If there is a wire connection, unplug and clean the little copper/silver prongs by rubbing with the eraser. If you just have two/three little squares on the battery and little tips on the handset rub all with the eraser a few times, this should solve the problem, rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip will work just as well as a eraser.
The question becomes is it the phone or the line?(recent rain may have gotten your main line wet.) Plug in a standard (corded phone) only into the phone line. If you still have static then call the repairman. Remember leave nothing else plugged in while you test the line!!! You can buy a phone for $8 at a wal-mart or target. Good to have in a power outage also! If you then determine it is the cordless unit then listen while you wiggle the phone line to the base unit. If it worsens regularly with the movement then you either have a faulty cord or jack! A bad battery contact will cause poor charging and drastic shortening of use. Almost never with newer isolation technology in cordless phones will the battery cause interference in the line.
