Can you set a delay on the answering machine picking up? I want to be able to have faxes come through even if I am not home.

you have to set the fax up into FAX/TEL mode…
then you connect a line cord from the phone jack to the “line” port on the back of the fax machine, and then connect a line cord from the phone port on the back of the fax machine to the telephone…
the fax will answer ALL calls and determine if it is a fax or voice call, if it is a fax it will accept and print out the fax, it it is a voice call, it will ring the phone(s) that are connected to the phone port on the fax machine, this way you can use the answering machine built into your phone… (other phones/jacks in your home will not ring, but can still answer the phone)

The caller ID diaplay will automatically work when you are subscribed with your phone company to ‘Caller ID’ option.. It usually has two options. One with number only, and one with number and name..It can run from .50 to .00 a month..

I don’t think it is a range problem because I have had the problem when I am in the next room as the homebase. It doesn’t happen all the time but quite alot. Anybody have this problem?

That underwater sound is the result of digital signals being interfered with. Newer cordless phones use digital so that they can be encrypted. One thing you should try is to get a P.O.T. (Plain Old Telephone) and use it for a few calls instead of your cordless. See if there is any underwater sound at that point. If there is, then it isn’t the cordless, it’s somewhere in your phone line.
If it’s definitely your cordless, maybe there’s some other interference on the channel, like are there any other cordless phones in the area, or baby monitors, or whatever? Sometimes the phone will have a control that lets you go to a different “channel,” that can have less interference on it (although newer phones do the channel switch automatically). If that isn’t the case, it’s time to return the phone.
If the POT also sounds underwater, it’s the phone company. If you get your phone service as part of DSL or over broadband cable, then you need to contact them about it, as your router or DSL interface may be malfunctioning.

Its getting interference from other devices in your house, more then likely microwave based things or RF devices. Change the channel on your base station and it should fix it.

I have the volume set on full the whole time, but often we have to strain to hear the other person. Not always though – sometimes clear as a bell. Yes we have wireless internet which I thought at first might be interfering, but it doesn’t seem to be related. Maybe its the Telstra line (Australia). I have heard others say they have similar problems with their cordless phones.
I have tried a corded phone on the same line and there was no problem, but I think cordless phones might be more prone to drop in volume when the landline signal is weak. I would like to hear from anyone who has had similar problems. It would confirm my theory at least. Then I can contact the communications ombudsman to see what Telstra will do about it .

Ya basically what you know now are all the possible problems.
. simple solution hook a othe phone up to the line and see if it does the same thing also try too unhook your dsl router and try it out than.
